HMS Jervis 1st refit. (3D plastic?)
In my comments about the plastic used in the printing of HMS Jervis I said I would not be displaying this model in sunlight as it may be turned into a goby mess. Well, it may be that you will have to have an aircon unit available. Now I know it's been a hot summer so far, (high 20,s here) but I did not think it would start to melt Jervis in the shade. I had it stored on top of one of my display cabinets and after entering my modelling room I looked up at her. To my surprise she seemed to have a list.
After inspection I found that my usual mounting pedestals were sinking into the underside of the boat. (She looks like she's taken two torpedo hits) So, it's back to the builder's workshop for a refit. I had to come up with a ship support that would spread the ships weight along as much of the length as possible without distracting from the ship's appearance. A bit of head scratching and I came up with this.
Now she's back on an even keel let's hope she stays that way.
So be careful of what 3D printed kits you buy. It's maybe that the plastic used in this kit is not representative of other printing plastic's but it's something to keep in mind when buying these types of kits. There is an article in “Scale Aircraft Modelling "in the August issue on the build of a” Latecoere 631” built to 1/72 scale, all 3D printed, standing on a 3D printed beaching trolley looking really nice but I was wondering which would give way first, the trolley or the wings to droop.
