Breighton 'G George day' 23rd Aug 2024

Post by MikeV »

Along with the New Zealand SIG we made a surprise 'pop up' appearance at the Breighton (Shuttleworth t'North) open day on Sunday. Absolutely not an airshow we nevertheless had a Spitfire and a Dakota fly in to provide 1:1 reference. . Organised at Short notice after the Bomber command SIG were unable to attend, it was a very different event from a model show - here pilots would come up and say "I flew that.....and that......and that.......and I once jumped out of one of those"

Both SIGs included a Dakota and Spitfires as appropriate to the event - we also had a Thor missile three of which had once been stationed a few hundred yards from where we were sitting.

Good to see member David Ferrari there with his father too

Doin' the missionary work !!

many thanks to The Real Aeroplane Club for the display space.
we only had six feet but managed an RAF themed display.

The Spitfire was fresh out of the workshop as atwo-seater but again a combat veteran

something you don't see every day either!

'Drag 'Em oot' is a genuine D day veteran - it's impressive landing and take-off performance ideal for our little grass strip

Great to see SiG144 at Breighton and a really nice surprise it was too! Perhaps not too many people realise that Thors once decorated the bucolic countryside of the East Riding…

Lovely photos both of you, great to see the SIG marching into new territories.

Hopefully a return visit can be arranged for another time, looks well worth the drive.
