April 2009 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Africa - an elderly Chinese built MiG-19 clone two-seat trainer is being used to give demonstration rides to privileged guests.
The kit is a Mark 1 reissue of an old Attack models moulding.
It comes with short run plastic sprues and resin parts for the cockpit tubs which were not present in the original kit.
The Tanzanian scheme came in the box.
I based the scene on some photos by Ben Wihelmi in Dar Es Salaam (probably the source for the decal reference photos too) who makes an interesting observation that of the two in the plane, the rear seater was sporting a leather helmet. So I'm combining a modern and WW2 pilot figure from Heroes Models.

With a little amputation surgery they fitted in the tubs, but not much remained visible. The tubs themselves are a very rudimentary fit, they sort of dangle in space so I used some of the unused missiles shafts to brace them on the sides.

The joys of buttress joins on the wings - just as I was about to paint it.
Paint went on eventually - not too many decals at least.
Canopy fitted, even less was visible inside.
On with the base and one of my new format wooden bases. To give it an airfield feel I added some sprayed markings similar to those on the reference pics and an edge of grass too.
This handy template came from the Ukraine.
For a vehicle in the scene I went with a Toyota Hilux for that classic African flavour.
A gorgeous 3d print from Panzer-Shop.nl was easy to finish in white. To this I added a few accessories and a Brengun access ladder with suitable bends for a MiG-19 wing.
The final part was a crewman who is holding a remove before flight tag, both are from Heroes Models.
That brought this build to an end.
