Macchi M.5

Post by F_IV »

It's been a while since I've had a finished build to share, so I hoped to show you the latest one. This is my Nieuport-Macchi M.5 in the markings of Tenente di Vascello Alberto Bortolozzo from Squadriglia 260a, based at Saint Andrea Seaplane Station during 1918.
The model is based on the 3D printed kit produced by V1Models from Japan. It uses the fuselage and engine nacelle with all surface details sanded off and replaced with finer ones. The floats, struts, tail, beaching gear & decals etc. are all from scratch. The wood grain finish is artist oils over a base coat of Gunze 'Sail Color", and the rigging is from 0.05mm nichrome wire. The build time for this one was about four months.

That gives a whole new meaning to 'surface detail sanded off and replaced with finer' ! As a mere assembler of kits it never ceases to amaze me what you scratchbuilders achieve - lovely !!
