RATG Silver Hurricanes (Sweet/Shelf Oddity)

Post by Tim R-T-C »

During Lockdown I've been developing my diorama/vignette presentation. Here is one of my works from earlier this year.

A lesser known aspect of WW2 pilot training was the use of good weather and enemy free skies in Commonwealth countries for pilot training.

One location was the country at the time called Rhodesia. By the late war their collection included some Mk.1 Hurricanes, painted in silver dope to protect them from the hot conditions.

The kits are the excellent mouldings by Sweet in 144th scale. Decals by Shelf Oddity from Poland. Silver from a Tamiya rattle can, all else brushed. Figures are generic N gauge painted to represent the local ground crew from period photos.

I like the bases - we used canvases on the stand for some time, but just unadorned. These little vignettes tell a story which is one of the things we are good at. Models on bases definitely look better on the stand, gives them context and better presentation.
