Aeroclub Lockheed Neptune

Aeroclub Lockheed Neptune is coming along slowly but steadily, a challenging model, requires much cutting away, fettling and a bit of correcting, but worth the effort because it is accurate in shape. I decided on the later version with MAD tail because the vacform clear tail turret of the early version was a poor fit, and also decided to leave off the dorsal turret. Getting quite a bit of lead in the nose was challenging, had to cut out the cockpit, nose observers position, nosewheel bay and windows and build a cockpit interior too.
Found some more suitable main wheels in my spares to replace the poor white metal kit ones.

Nice one !!
You would think, wouldn't you, that someone would have done a new Neptune by now?. That said I've built it and agree it takes a bit of fettling, but it is essentially the right shape - and the vac canopies are thick enough to take some fettling.
Good to see one coming along so well - did you pick up the handed engines that John missed ?
Damn shame they got rid of the one at Cosford.

Thanks Mike, yes I did discover that the engines have been moulded with the same number of exhausts on both sides, but only after I had already drilled them out, hey ho.

Very nice. Looking forward to seeing that some day.
Mike: don’t tell me that the Cosford example has been scrapped? Please, no!

Interesting statistical footnote - given that there's only about 60 of us members, your Neptune seems to have attracted global attention....check out how many views the post has had!
