Hello everyone. Thought it was about time someone posted a model boat photo or two.
After building the Trumpeter Astute sub it came to the painting stage. As most sub's are painted black the problem was how to make black interesting? My solution was to add the acoustic panels to the hull & fin. I came up with the idea to use builders self addisive plaster board mesh. After adding the mesh over the boat I sprayed the area with Halfords gray primer. The mesh was then removed & rubbed down slightly. The result was that some if the squares were then painted a different colour & then over painted black. Hope you like the result

Re: HMS Astute.
Hi Malcolm
I have to say I love that finish - rust streaks aren't appropriate for today's subs and that certainly adds to the visual appeal. I have a number of UBoats in the stash which I really should get out (one day) the one I did build (Revell's oft re-issued Type 21)looks surprisingly modern compared to vessels like the Astute - cracking model sir !!
