Brampton, St Ives, Cambridgeshire - September 2024

Breaking new ground again this past weekend as we ventured into Anglia and the Brampton club show in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

We were joined by Mike in a support role and Callum who lives in the vast Kentish lands beyond the Thames, but represents the scale regularly on his local club table at southern shows.

Callum's growing range of models include several classic 144th kits, as well as a couple of well repainted Gashapons.

I had my latest wooden based scenes, including the P-40N which was finished up on Friday night, as well as a selection of the older canvas models which live in my display box these days as show table-fillers.

Emma supplied a good dose of bucolic scenery and a pack (what is the collective noun?) of Gundams.

All received a lot of positive comments and interest, with lots of photos taken which will hopefully inspire some more modellers into the scale.

Elsewhere in the show a gentleman named Phil had this nice layout of 144th models.

A few cool scenes in other scales that caught my eye.

This grand production will eventually be a detailed Duxford airshow recreation. Bet they wish they had started in in 144th!

I can't escape work!

The drive home was long because of road incidents but fortunately we got to stop at a favourite diner.

Picked up a couple of secondhand bits from the aforementioned Phil. More Vampires in my life soon.

I was gifted this dicast that someone won on the tombola and didn't know what to do with. So been researching some paint options for this.

And found this nice 3d printed range from Trains4u. They are military vehicles designed for model railway layouts, so they have 1/76 and 1/148. I picked up some landrovers and two tracked vehicles to try. Printing detail looks very nice.

Another really good day out, next stop on the tour is Lincoln.

With Terry away and me constrained by arrival of new grandchild we might have lost this show had not Tim, Emma and Callum stepped up to the plate at quite short notice - not to mention considerable distance. Our gratitude to you all.

As it transpired Shirl and I got a pass to visit the show but couldn't stay all day. The SIG only gets a small space but it is in a light and airy room rather than down in the pit. The standard of models and presentation more than compensated for the limited display space and there was much favourable comment from visitors. Callum's models are quite superbly finished - to name but two tricky subjects the white TSR-2 and Black SR-71 were spot-on. Emma's architectural wonders and colourful Gundams are drawing in a whole new range of interest in the scale, while Tim's vignettes, ever varied and interesting subject wise, are setting something of a presentational trend.

Congratulations - dun us proud you did!

Special mention for members Ian (AKA Callum's dad) and 'South Atlantic' Janet (who kindly donated the Italian Tri-motor now re-homed with Tim who will doubtless find a suitably obscure Air Force for it!)

PS - the show itself is very good with loads of traders and displays, I will confess that I too went away with some additions to the stash and a book or two!
