BOLTON 2024

Post by MikeV »

First show of the year under our belt !

Bolton show held at the still-signposted-as Macron stadium is a massive event and like SMW had a huge turn-out that bodes well for the hobby - having scoped out the correct places to park for unloading last year we braved the wind and rain to find ourselves once again up on the mezzanine - The Force, however was with us and set-up was relatively trouble free. Not so the poor devils queuing right round the stadium outside - apparently it took some folk nearly an hour to get in when the doors opened.

Exhibiting were David's Hart and Ferrari, Huw, Tim & Emma, and yours truly with a superb guest contribution from Jon Nichols (who was obligated to man the welcome return of Martin Blundell's stand downstairs)

There were a number of new items on show - the 'sub section' continues to grow with Huw's HMS Meteorite adding to the theme of German advanced designs. We also showed - prominently on a promontory - the Spitfire collection. The Luftwaffe was there and as ever Tim and Emma's distinctive vignettes. Emma assuring us that a pair of heavily-armed young ladies were in fact 1/144 giant robots from the Gundam universe...........I guess resistance would indeed be futile if one of those was looming over you with the obligatory death-ray............

David Ferrari brought along some impressive Boeing heavy metal which was ably supplemented by Jon and Huw.

A great show and a grand day out !

A good show and not quite as frigid as previous years - although we did get buffeted by hurricane force winds as we left and one of Emma's dioramas shed several small figures - so next time the Christmas market appears, they will all probably be in different places (modelling in 4 dimensions?).

An unusual table layout, but we made it work with a Spitfire Peninsula

My year's worth of vignettes!

Emma's scenes, with some new snowy pieces for the season.

The recently released Brengun Arado flying bomb Mistrel

The famous NAMU yellow Privateer.

Good to see how busy it was for most of the day and the traders seemed to be having a good time too.

We drew the interest of some special guests

And lots of passers by too

Even met a celebrity

Just one kit purchase for me, this very nice looking set of resin parts for the field generator on Hoth (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back).
