C-97 and EC-121

Post by daveF »

Got round to a bit of modelling this afternoon for the first time in months.
Masking cockpits on Minicraft heavies.
£8 and £16 respectively from the show at North Shields.
Not perfect masking but a start and means I can fill and put on a primer coat.
Cheers, David

I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but I like these Minicraft kits. The Connie in particular needs sanding on every part before you can use it.

I love the Connie it is such a beautiful aircraft. When I was serving in Malta in the mid 1960s there was one parked alongside the civilian airport building, it was there for many months, the story was that it was impounded because it had been used for gun running. I wish I had photographed it but didn't.

There is a picture at https://www.flickr.com/photos/harryclaggers/30753196574 of this Constellation which ended up as a bar in Malta. This article https://www.guidememalta.com/en/throwba ... lation-bar refers.

Yes David, thats the one, although the only location I saw it in was in a civilian area of the perimeter of Luqa airfield. There was no access to it but it was in full view, I don't know why I never photographed it.
Thanks for that David.

I’m glad the thread is bringing out some Connie love. Best photos I can contribute are of this nose landing gear on display at Oberschleissheim, north of Munich. I wonder why the wheels tilt out?

Looking Good - I have a couple of Revell Connies in the stash - lovely aircraft. Minicraft are a bit curate's egg - I agree with you - they are attractive subjects - best ones in the range are the Catalina, B-47 and B-58 - to be fair a lot of Roden's output has similar problems but in all cases there's a good model in there somewhere!

Re the Museum Wheels.....maybe they are there because they are out of line ?

Curate’s egg! Had to look that one up and I agree with you. The decals are good though (compare with Roden….).
Re the bendy out wheels, I think they all had them:
