KC-97

Post by MalcolmR »

In the late 1950,s I had a sight that has stayed with me ever since. I was playing in the street in Newcastle where I was brought up when this large aircraft flew over at low level. (About 1500ft) trailing on each wing were two other aircraft. It turned out that the large aircraft was a KC-97 with ether two F100,s or F-101,s. I think there must have been an airshow at Aclington. So here's to memories.

Hi all,
I was looking for the date of my 1st air display I was taken to and came across this photo which I saw going to an open day at Actlington.

memories

Agree re memories - I used to get to spend my schoolboy summer holidays at my Aunt's cottage - conveniently situated as it turned out a couple of miles from RAF Manston. The USAF were still there initially but after they left it became, amongst other things, a V bomber dispersal with QRA pads at the end of the runway.

If you want to impress a small boy a Vulcan 4 ship scramble will definitely work - they were still painted white then too......

Lovely job on the KC - is that the minicraft kit?
