XBTK-1

Another from the multitude of unsuccessful US prototypes towards the end of the war. A sort of Skyraider or Mauler lite to replace TBMs used as attack aircraft. It looks rather as if the aim was to produce a SBD successor with a more modern level of performance. I have never seen a made up model of ...

Re: Emma's pastoral scenes

I think one of the Czech manufacturers does photoetched ears to improve those elephants. I imagine there is a book somewhere with a title like "British Forces Elephant Equipment 1846-1970".

Re: Emma's pastoral scenes

Searching images on "Elephants towing aircraft" is quite productive. Preiser does some elephants but they are 1:160. If the Preiser ones are African, you could file down the ears and they would be a good match for the smaller Indian/Sri Lankan variety.

Re: Emma's pastoral scenes

It was at Khartoum in the course of tropical trials when it suffered an undercarriage collapse on landing, and was written off.

Lovely shots exist of trams and USAAF aircraft in transit. But beware - there are those among the tram modelers who will tell you, in some detail, if you have modelled the wrong sort of controller on your 1/144 Liverpool tram. At the risk of starting a thread that would best be with "What If?" you might like this, circulated at the start of last month. Unsure if you have clearance to see this picture but it seems to have leaked into the public domain.

Re: Avro,s finest

That's a beautiful Lincoln. The Avro line up by the hangar reminds me of my Dad's story of seeing Lancasters emerge from the camouflaged factory at Yeadon in about 1943. You can still see the building by the Leeds/Bradford airport.

I've long wanted to visit Kitezh but we couldn't afford to do it in the same trip with Mordor. I wonder whether the particular conditions there have proven a problem for the preservation of the MiG. Perhaps this would have been a more suitable craft for the memorial?

Re: Spearfish

Eric Brown, who flew it, referred to it as something like “the biggest thing he’d ever seen propelled by just one engine”. He never flew the Douglas Sky Pirate, which might have changed his mind.
